Do I Need A Fused Spur For An Oven. This is in its own RCD protected circuit. The 40amp switch box will be used to connect up.
All new sockets in a house require protection by an RCD Residual Current Device. The existing socket is most likely on 25mm2 ring which is protected by a 32A MCB. I am assuming this new oven will need to be fused at 13amp so Im thinking of running a new spur from existing 40amp switch box in adjoining cupboard to a new 13amp plug socket below and wire a 13amp plug on to the new oven cable.
The max demand of the oven and the 13A fuse in the plug should be OK for this.
Im assume this simply means it comes without a plug. In many cases most modern integral appliances such as a built-in dishwasher do not have enough space behind the appliance to fit a plug and socket-outlet which is when an electrician may decide to install the socket in an adjacent cupboard an alternative to this could be to install a flex-outlet plate behind the appliance via a switched fused spur above the worktop however the issue with.
